The Lions Peace Poster Contest

Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For 25 years, more than eight million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.   The theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster Contest was "Our World, Our Future." Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, were eligible to participate.

Making It More Meaningful at Midway Middle
To make the contest more personal and thus more meaningful for Midway Middle School students, they were asked to go one step further by adding a “Y” to make the theme “Your World, Your Future.”  They were required to include their self portrait and their own personal vision for their future.  Some chose to show what they want to be when they grow up, others chose a place of peace.

Promoting the Arts

Each year's art contest for kids consists of an original theme incorporating peace. Participants use a variety of mediums, including charcoal, crayon, pencil and paint, to express the theme. The works created are unique and express the young artists' life experiences and culture.  Our thanks go to the Liberty Coastal Lions Club for sponsoring the contest at Midway Middle School.  In addition, they generously offered to award prizes to students age 14 or older so they could participate in the contest on the local level.

Spreading Peace and International Understanding
Twenty-four international Peace Poster entries are selected each year, representing the work of approximately 400,000 young participants worldwide. Posters are shared globally via the Internet, the media and exhibits around the world.

Here are just a few of the entries this year.  As you can see, we have very talented young artists here at Midway Middle.
