Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 2nd.  The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family who have died.
Traditions include building altars honoring the deceased and decorating them with sugar skulls that represent those who have passed away. Marigolds are another significant symbol for the Day of the Dead festivity, and are known as the "flower of the dead." Their scent is believed to "attract the souls and draw them back."  To help celebrate Day of the Dead, the Midway Middle School Art Club created baskets of marigolds with sugar skulls.
