Aboriginal Dot Painting

Sixth grade students learned about ancient Australian rock art, which is famous for its "x-ray" view of the inside of animals.

They learned that the artists of Australian rock art are natives of Australia and they are called Aborigines, the oldest known continuous culture in the world.  By the way, "Ab" means "from" and "Origine" means "the beginning."

Next they viewed a more recent form of Aboriginal art - dot painting.

Many dot paintings feature a "totem," an animal that serves as the artist's good luck symbol.  So sixth graders chose an animal for their "totem" and used oil pastels to create an Aboriginal Dot Painting.
