Dog Mosaic from ancient Pompeii |

Woven Dog Mosaic by Gugger Petter |
Eighth grade students learned that mosaics are pictures that are created by gluing together small pieces of tile or glass that fit together like a puzzle. After viewing examples of ancient Roman mosaics, students viewed the work of contemporary artist Gugger Petter whose work has been influenced by this ancient art form. Petter weaves newspapers to create images that look like mosaics.
Students created their own dog mosaics by first painting two versions of the same picture and then weaving them together.
