For the beginning of 2013, students were asked to create a booklet entitled "My Passions." Since the character word of the month was "motivation," the assignment was to make a picture book that showed who or what motivates them.
MLK Poster Contest Winners
Over 100 Midway Middle School students participated in the Liberty County Liberty County , two Midway Middle School
Shelby Logan won 1st place for her poster showingDorchester Academy , the first school in Liberty County
Megan Muir won 2nd place for her poster showing important historical figures who devoted their lives to equal rights – Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Mohandas Gandhi, and Abraham Lincoln. She also added the message “Treat Others the Way You Want to Be Treated.”
To help prepare for the contest, students watched “The Children’s March,” a documentary based upon African American children who in 1963 marched for equal rights in
Students also read informative materials from the media center to learn more about our African American history. Thanks to Mrs. Dover and Ms. Gadsen in the media center for all of your assistance!
Students also viewed a PowerPoint presentation to educate them on the history of the United States with thought provoking images from slavery to the presidency, from segregation to integration, from the Renaissance to the Harlem Renaissance, from Harriet Tubman to Oprah Winfrey, and, ultimately, from Mohondas Gandhi to Martin Luther King, Jr.
