Eighth grade students learned about petroglyphs - prehistoric rock art in North America . Petroglyphs (petro, meaning “rock” and glyph meaning “symbol”) consist of designs carved into the surface of natural rock. Native American petroglyph sites are sacred places and are treated with the same respect as any other place of worship. Students engraved their choice of petroglyphs into metal tooling foil. Then they wrote a story to explain the meaning of their petroglyphs.
